Dear Hillside Families,

We are heading into a busy and exciting month at Hillside! Please take a look at the important events and reminders for May below:

May Character Trait: Problem Solver

This month, we are focusing on supporting our students in building strong problem-solving skills—both academically and socially.

Staff Appreciation Week (May 4–8)

Join us in celebrating our incredible Hillside staff for all they do for our students each day!

Track & Field Meet – May 15

We are excited to wrap up our PE unit with our annual Track & Field Meet during specialist time. Reach out to your child’s teacher for specific timing details.

Track & Field Volunteer Opportunity!

We’d love your help to make this event a great experience for our students!

Volunteers will:

  • Support a station (timing races or measuring jumps/throws)
  • Help record student results on event cards
  • Work alongside staff and other volunteers

Teachers will handle organization and student management—your role is to help keep events running smoothly! Volunteers are asked to sign up for and stay for the full duration of a selected time slot.

Interested in being an observer during your student’s grade level?

Please reach out to your classroom teacher to find out what time your class will have their Track & Field event.

PTO Annual Meeting – May 19

Join us as we vote on the 2026–2027 PTO Executive Board.

Snow Make-Up Day – May 22 (No School) &  Memorial Day – May 25 (No School)

Student of the Month Assembly + Spirit Day – May 29

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Throughout May, we celebrate and honor the rich cultures, contributions, and histories of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.

Car Loop Reminder:
Morning Drop-Off

  • Please pull up past the bike racks before stopping so we can fully utilize the car loop.
  • If you need to walk your child to the front door, please park in the parking lot rather than stopping in the car loop.

Afternoon Dismissal

  • Drivers should remain in their cars during dismissal. Staff will help your child safely to your vehicle.
  • If you would like to meet your child at the door, or need to get out of your car for any reason, please park in the lot and walk up, instead of using the car loop.

Field Day is coming up on Thursday, June 4th, and we are excited for a fun-filled day for our Huskies! We are currently looking for volunteers to help make the day run smoothly.

Volunteer Roles:

  • Station Volunteers: These volunteers will stay at a designated station and support all classes as they rotate through activities throughout the day.
  • Classroom Support: These adults travel with a specific class and support students alongside the classroom teacher. Classroom support will be organized directly by the teacher.

At this time, we are especially looking for Station Volunteers.

Greatest Need: Our “Carnival” area
This area includes rented games that require active adult supervision, and we would love extra support here to ensure safety and fun for all students!

Volunteer Details:

  • Arrival Time: 8:00 AM (for setup support)
  • Lunch will be provided!
  • If you have a young one, they may join you but they must stay with you.

If you are available and willing to volunteer, we would greatly appreciate your support in making this a memorable day for our students.

As always, thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to a strong and joyful finish to the school year—ALL IN together!

Warmly,
Lauren Bolster
