Principal’s March Message
Hello Hillside Husky Families!
At the end of February, we celebrated our Winter Wonderland: Reading Night! The event drew over 400 Hillside family members who enjoyed a PTO-provided pizza dinner and fun reading/literacy and art activities. We are excited to be planning our next event focused on math this April 27, 2023. Mark your calendars now!
That pesky Groundhog saw its shadow last month extending winter another six weeks; since then, the weather has not proven him wrong! Burr! Please be sure your child is equipped with winter weather clothes and should one of our little Husky’s need gloves mittens or a jacket, we have fresh ones in the Health Room.
For inclement weather and other operational updates please be sure to check the CPSD website.
School Culture
We continue to strengthen our student support system designed to ensure an atmosphere of calm and respect. It is within this context that most effective learning happens, according to neuroscience. We have universally understood hand signals (“Husky Hush”) and incentives for students who practice being safe, respectful, responsible, problem-solvers, and life-learners (“Husky High Five”). Teachers are working to develop universal classroom expectations for continuity year-over-year regardless of the teacher a student has, and applicable in interventions and specialists.
School Safety
The most recent evacuation drill results were complete evacuation of 482 students and 52 staff in 4 min. 31 sec. In March, we will run an evacuation and reunification drill. We will communicate with parents far in advance of this drill with what to expect.
