Hello Hillside Husky Families!

Hopefully, all the April showers we have experienced bring forward a beautiful May full of flowers. As we move into May, intermediate grades will begin the Washington State assessments in English Language Arts and Math, and 5th grade will also take the state science assessment. We are confident that our work with students all year to move each child closer to academic standards will be reflected in our results.

We are currently accepting applications for Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year, as well as intent to return notices for the other grades. Early responses to both will allow staff to begin working on grade-level student assignments. Thank you, in advance, for returning your applications and return notices in a timely manner.

School Culture

Our leadership students are running a remarkably successful sock drive for the Tacoma Rescue Mission. To date, over 2,000 pairs of socks have been collected! Keep up the great work!

The principal’s student voice group is working on a Public Service Announcement project titled “We are Hillside.” The students believe that non-military affiliated adults can benefit from better understanding military culture and what it means to be a military child. The students are developing a short film featuring themselves speaking to their family’s culture and offering their perspective as military-connected kids.

The recent base lockdown reminded us why our monthly drills are so important to conditioning the students to respond properly in the case of an emergency. I am proud to report that the students and staff did incredibly well during the lockdown, which is a testament to the practice drills’ effectiveness.
